At the forge in Nakarra, Kofi answers the metal that has been troubling him. What should be familiar work becomes something neither he nor Kwame can explain.

The story begins with a young smith and the craft his father taught him. As beauty and fear meet at the anvil, the village forge becomes the first point of contact between Kofi and the people watching him.
